I don't understand why this novel is marked "Young Adult" level; it's not, I think. Young adults can certainly read it but it's style and content are aimed at adult readers.
It was a slow read, as others have said, but it paid off in its picture of English life in the mid 10th century. I would recommend it to readers who like lots of period ambience and psychological ambiguity.
