I wish I could credit the source for encouraging me to want to read this book. Alas, I have no idea. I'm glad this was an opportunity I didn't overlook. The stunning, artistic dust jacket was a motive.
If you are a logophile, you will love this book. Turning every page I craved to see this story as a movie. Not to replace the text, but to visualize what the author described so well: cultivating archeological digs, traversing rugged, unforgiving canyon terrain, or avoiding an unfortunate encounter while riding through Europe on horseback during WWII.
The lives of the two main characters, alternate between chapters, some with flashbacks. I was pleased this technique was not overused to create this story.
Painted Horses is one of those books that made an impression. I'm confident I'll be recalling portions of the book for a long time.
