I was not that wild about the character of Victoria in the first book in this series, so I was not in that much of a hurry to read it. When I finally got around to it, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was, and how much I ended up liking her. And of course the hero, who gets major points for actually listening to the heroine, and not underestimating her. Because even though she has a reputation as a flibbertygibbet she is quite smart. The hero was a spy who pretends to be a dissolute rake, but she sees through that disguise pretty quickly. This is not one of those books where they get married in the last chapter-it happens near the beginning of the story, so the H&H get to spend a lot of quality time together, if you know what I mean!
The mystery part of the story is also quite well done, with subtle clues, and it sure had me guessing.
This rates as one of Suzanne Enoch's top tier books, along with England's Perfect Hero and Always a Scoundrel.
