I quickly became a fan of Upfield and his stories about "Bony," a mixed-race Detective Inspector in Australia. This is probably due to my Australian connection (mother was Australian, I went to the 5th grade there, enjoy reading about the history of Australia, etc.). As such I have a good feeling for the types of people and the environment found in Upfield's books.

This one was really good, and is one of the few where Australian aborigines don't play a big part in the story, except for "Bony" and his tracking abilities of course.

Upfield keeps you wondering who killed the Lottery winner, and it's only until the end that you understand it was more complex and much simpler than you thought.
