i have to say i have not read "midnight in the garden of good and evil". and i managed to avoid the movie!
i chose this book because i like memoirs and i also like flamboyant, interesting people.
this was a very good book. i read it in one day! her story is awesome.
i will never forget- when my sons were 3 & 5 we had some teen boys who liked to dress as girls and stroll the neighborhood. i taught my children to nod and smile and say "good afternoon ladies" (even though my boys knew they were boys). this brought them to tears the very first time my sons acknowledged them in this manner. i explained to my children that some people were different and because of this we should strive to treat them even better than we would want to be treated because most people will not be very nice to them. these young boys went out of their way to stroll past us every time we were outside! they got such joy and affirmation from my sons. the early life of lady chablis reminded me of this.
i am so thrilled to learn of her struggle and final triumph.
a very moving and inspiring life!
