I really love Patricia Briggs I've read her Mercy Thompson series and was totally enamoured! I wish I had read the anthology that included the short story that began the series. I did enjoy the book but I felt like a kept waiting for something to happen and then all the action took place in the last few pages. I also really didn't like the time spent developing a character and getting to know and like him only to have him killed very uneventfully. I did like the relationship between Charles and Anna and its developeing. I'm not a big fan of characters riddled with issues and the one step forward two steps back style of courtship. I don't mind a slow build up and I understand trust issues but, either you do or you don't. I love Patricia Briggs' style of writing it's like having coffee with a friend. It is the perfect blend of two of my favorites, Charlaine Harris and Kim Harrison. It was worth the time to read but it's not quite as entertaining as Mercy lacked the humor and had a more serious tone.
