This book was ok. A bit long. Still lots of intrigue, politics and plotting, lots of Scifi and fantasy mix in this book. This time there were more elements of fantasy besides just magic. Some creatures show up in this one. This is one of the better books in the saga. It tells the story of a lancer, who is magi'i trained, but isn't allowed to use his gifts. A forbidden love affair is also a main story line. Really not to bad but still pretty dry for me. Really picked up towards the end of the book, more action that is. Makes me want to read the next one, which I will, but it will also be my last one. The thing that really drives me batty with this author is the way he expects you to automatticly know what the main character is plotting, I wonder if he knows that he doesn't make some of this story clear. It's like your reading and going along with the story, and then BAM, It sort of switches to the middle of his charaters secret plotting, and you kind of left scratching your head.
