Helpful Score: 3
I enjoyed Twilight when I read it alone, (my 13-year-old daughter adored it!!) but so much more when I discovered that author Stephenie Meyer has posted the first 12 chapters of her companion book, Midnight Sun, that tells the story from Edward's point of view on her web site (stepheniemeyer.com). Reading them together makes for a much more compelling story. Bella's story is a bit too annoyingly "teen" and obsessive for my general taste (and I agree that Meyer must have worn out a thesaurus finding words to describe physical beauty) but Edward's sometimes hilarious and melodramtic takes on things was wonderfully enjoyable. While the story is a very sweet and tender "first love" romance from either point of view, Edward's view brings a richness to the relationship that adds a wonderful beauty and depth to the story. As the book nears its midpoint and heads for the conclusion, the action picks up considerably. Overall, I would definitely recommend, especially when read combined - certainly captivating and surprisingly addictive.
