One thing is certain since James Patterson started pairing with co-authors. You never know which James Patterson you are getting when you buy a book. This one doesn't resemble any James Patterson I remember; but, that doesn't keep it from being an entertaining, if slightly less than credible, summer vacation read. The characters are only penciled in and the first person narrative by a female detective may be hard for a man to relate to (we being as shallow as we tend to be) but the plot has enough hills and valleys to be an interesting trip. On the whole it is worth trading a used book for but I wouldn't encourage this kind of thing by actually paying full price (and royalties)for what you think is a James Patterson novel. Instead, trade for one of his earlier solo efforts.
