While I have enjoyed all of the stories in this series (Gabriel's Ghost and Shades of Dark), this is probably my least favorite. I love the characters of Sully and Chaz and truly enjoy reading about their deepening relationship, however this book wasn't about Chaz and Sully. It was about Chaz's ex-husband Philip and Rya. While all of the books are themematically linked, they are stand alone entities.
The thing that I disliked the most about this book is that instead of giving us signifigant insights into who Rya and Philip are as individuals and as a "command" couple, the author spent too much time referencing what Chaz and Sully would have done, could have done, and did do in previous books. That drove me crazy! If Philip wanted to be with Chaz, then he should have done things differently, but he didn't, get over it. So all of the "When Chaz and I were married...." and "Chaz and Sully did....thus and such" was uncecessary and redundant.
And... what the heck was going on with all of the second guessing and insubordination amoung the junior officers. They needed to be slapped, but so did Rya and Philip. Blahhhhh... To the entire story.
