In the Outcast, Tarod is joined while frozen in time by Cyllan, a young horse drover, and Drachea, a self important Margrave's son. Tarod is recovering from his betrayal of his love and his best friend, and finds that loyalty is not based in beauty, but loyalty can make one stunning. Cyllan allies herself with Tarod and as she attempts to help him regain his soul, Drachea tries to interfere, and gain glory for himself.
The Outcast further drives home the idea that without evil there can be no good, and order when is alone with out chaos, order becomes chaotic.
