In her sixth Amish of Hart County novel, Shelley Shepard Gray treats readers to a second Christmas themed novel. In this instance, the promise of the title is tied to God's promise as well as John Michael Miller's promise to look after Grace King when a rash of local fires linked to home robberies threaten her during a dog-sitting job over the holidays.

With a cantankerous dachshund named Snooze as the catalyst, Grace and John Michael start to get reacquainted in spite of her family's continued dislike of him after he had broken her older sister's heart years before. As a more mature friendship begins to lead them towards revealing their feelings for each other, there are other tensions pulling at their newly forming relationship, when the english house Grace is staying in seems to be in the sights of criminals and the welfare of an older Amish woman who had been kind to them as children is also at risk.

A highly enjoyable Amish firefighter/petsitter slow-building-second-chance romance with mystery, hints of danger, love of family, and charity towards those less fortunate set during the Christmas season.Great Book!
