In 1982 a shotgun blast broke the silence in a Cheyenne WY neighborhood. A teenage boy and his sister fled into the night. Their mother screamed, and their father lay dead in the driveway. Thus ended 18 years of intimate, unrelenting, shocking, family terror. The author, Alan Prendergast, a reporter for Rolling Stone, was the first to bring the facts of the Jahnke case to national attention, and later "Sixty Minutes" gave it a once-over.
