This is the fifth mystery in the Lois Meade series by Ann Purser. I came back to this series after a year long break. I read the first four one after the other and found myself getting frustrated with Lois and her crabbiness. She is crabby with everyone!

I think the break was what I needed as I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. It is a typical cozy with all the cozy trappings: small English village, amateur sleuth/busybody, inept police who can't put two and two together and come up with three, lots of tea and baked goods. Everything that makes a cozy so familiar and, well, cozy. The mystery here is a little weak but the sense of community and place really makes this one work. If you've read the others in the series, you'll recognize everyone and characters are developing nicely. This is a fast read that screams cozy. A lovely diversion!
