This book started ok but devolved into trite dialogue and impossible plot devices. The worst thing of all was Rory's father; he was irritating beyond words. I gave the book a three because I was able to finish it. I also don't like that the author gathers together all of the characters from previous (and future) books. I really don't see the way she combines the characters from other books in this series as being very interesting or believable.
Garth Fraser stops in a one-horse town and catches the eye of the local dancehall girl, Rory. They are interested in each other but Garth has plans; he has the mine map from his deceased uncle and plans to look for gold.
During a fight in the saloon, Garth's map is picked up by Rory's father and he talks Rory into leaving immediately to look for gold. From this point, the story goes from bad to worse.
