A decent, if not riveting, read. Despite the somewhat stilted writing style, I did enjoy the emotional element involved, especially when Em didn't get the reunion with her younger sister that she (and I) had anticipated. That unexpected twist gave a bittersweet edge to the tale. I also liked that Caleb eventually perceived the beauty in Em's plain face and her courageous spirit. Good insight into the orphan train and what it meant for the unwanted children. 3 stars.
