This is the third book in the demon cycle. I loved the first book right from the beginning. The second book was harder to get into, as the beginning was from the POV of a character that I disliked in the previous book. By the end of his POV he had become a much more sympathetic character. The second book advanced the plot in some interesting ways and had some interesting character development.

I'll admit that I peeked at reviews before starting this book, so I wasn't as enthusiastic as I might have been going into it. The idea of revisiting scenes from book one that were already redone in book two from a different POV wasn't thrilling. But I was determined to try to give it a fair chance.

I enjoyed the prologue and was interested in seeing more about Inereva. However, we then move to follow Arlen and Renna as they travel back to the Hollow. Renna drove me nuts. I didn't like reading from her point of view. Granted, the way that she acted was reasonable for her character, but that doesn't mean that I enjoy reading the POV of willfully angry and contrary people. I made it to the 100 page mark. With books I always try to get at least 25% (or 100 pages, whichever is smaller) into a book before giving up on it. At 100 pages I hadn't gotten totally fed up yet. However, only about 20 pages later I gave up, when Arlen goes into a dinner with a bunch of people apparently fully determined to be insulted by everything. Now, the people holding the dinner probably were being insulting, but I'm not a fan of that kind of conflict and I gave up.
