The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson is fascinating and intense historical fiction (TW rape, suicide, racism, extreme poverty). I was quickly drawn into the drama and had great empathy for the characters as they faced intense isolation and many other challenges.
The historical aspects were very educational, from the WPA Pack Horse Library Project to the âBlue People' of Kentucky. I just wish the ending wasn't so abrupt.
