Im not sure why I wanted to read an early copy of this book. After book 2, I did not know if I wanted to continue with the series at all. Frankly, I was bored with the series, and I really did not like Sabina. I know, this is not how you start a review in which you rated the book 4 stars but please stick with me. Ill make sense eventually or not.

Anyways, book 3 in the Sabina Kane saga started really darn good. I was squealing with joy (no, not literally) but I was happy. I so did not regret my decision to read this book. There was tons of action with Sabina trying to recover what was taken from her at the end of book 2 (trying to avoid a spoiler here just in case). Then, a few chapters later, it was yawnville for me. How do I explain this? Im going to try to give you example:

I walked upstairs.
I sneezed.
I put a sock on.
I looked into the mirror.
I sat down.
I wondered what Herman was doing
Blah, blah, blah.

The authors writing is like the examples I gave above. The writing is so mechanical at times. Now, I am NO writer but I have a rule, if it looks like I could write the book, something is wrong. At times, the writing in this book felt wrong.

So, what the hell right? Im still giving the book 4 stars and all Ive done is complain? Yeah, I know, I do ramble. So here is the good stuff:

I loved Sabina in this book for the exact reason I hated her in book 2. Seriously, the best part of this book has nothing to do with the story (Ill get to that shortly). This book is about Sabina struggling with her inner self and who she is. Im not talking about the fact that she is half Mage and half vampire but instead, the part that makes her 1 part lethal assassin and one part vulnerable, fragile woman. This is what I loved. No, the book is not sappy at all. In fact, you still have all of Sabinas wit, and her kick ass heroism. However, you also have her insecurities, and her sense of hopelessness.

By far, the best part of the book is Sabinas and Adams relationship. Not only is it conflicted but also it is darn right fun. You add in jealousy on Sabinas part, frustration on Adams part, a demon with an opinion, a drag queen, a pissed of werewolf and you have a lot of fun antics.

I learned to like Sabina in this book. I realized I did not want to change her but instead, I was hoping she learned to open up to the people (ok not people but Mages, werewolves, demons, etc.) around her. She could still be a kick ass tough bitch but in this book, she learned what really mattered. Wow, I sound like a romantic. How sickening!
