Disappointing.
I'm one of those people who loved the original Illuminatus Trilogy, mock Pynchon though they are. After reading this one, I was left with the opinion that Shea was the one responsible for what I loved most in the original books. Wilson's writing is as usual completely over the top, but without Shea's influence this book comes across as self-indulgent, not particularly funny, and derivative as it can be. Maybe Wilson should have stuck to his job as editor rather than venturing into composition.
Skip this one. Instead, look for the original illuminatus Trilogy.
