Pike Logan's down and out and living on a decrepit boat in a drunken depression after a terrible loss which he feels responsible for. Things take a turn when he saves a young woman (Jennifer) from two thugs, which is where the pace gears up and it doesn't slacken until the last page is turned. Pike was a member of an elite, clandestine team until the tragedy which sent him into a depression until things change when this young lady is almost killed.
She is being stalked because her uncle has disappeared and he supposedly sent her something which the men want. Pike begrudgingly agrees to help her find her uncle, which begins an adventure that will uncover a plot so heinous that it has world wide ramifications and Pike needs to make his old unit leaders understand that it is an imminent threat to the world. He has a wicked sense of humor and it comes out in the dialogue when you least expect it. He is a hero that has to overcome a great sadness but, ultimately, he rises to the rescue of this young lady and stops WW3.
I am going to read the next in the series and recommend this to my book club.
