Nice sequel to THE BECOMING. Anna is attempting to live a "normal" life even though she's now a vampire. It's interesting how different writers add or subtract from the classic vampire characteristics. Anna can go out in the day, and it doesn't appear that when she does sleep, she's effectively dead. She can drink anything but not eat. She has a need for blood and of course that's tied to sex (that part, no one changes). She doesn't appear in mirrors which is one thing that really makes me laugh - why in the world? I like that we're going to see more supernatural creatures coming out, and the whole underground "command center" thing was great. However, Anna does seem to be having a lot of trouble adjusting. I see this in a lot of urban fantasy, even detective novels: the tough female protagonist just can't accept the idea that they don't know everything, can't have everything their own way, and will not accept even good advice that makes sense. I do hope that in the next books Anna realizes she needs to get an education about her new life, because having her thrash around infuriated all the time is going to get boring.
