One of the German classics.

The Buddenbrooks are a wealthy German merchant family. Their fate is traced from about 1835 to 1875 using the siblings Thomas and Antonie as the main figures.

Thomas Mann's German is like a rich truffle you want to let melt on your tongue. Beautifully written.
