You really need to read book one to get to know some of the characters before reading book two. Essie resigns herself to being a spinster at the age of 34. She is now pretty much running her dad's oil business and has made a success of her bicycle club. Tony Morgan, the disinherited son of an oil baron, comes seeking a job with her family's oil business. Essie and Tony clash much of the time, but soon romance begins to bud. But then her past mistake is found out, and she is blackmailed. Lots of other oil companies have people come for the annual bicycle race which Essie's club hosts. Among those attending are Tony's family. A murder and almost lynching keep you on the edge of your seat while you are reading as fast as you can. Great ending.
