A good book delights the mind, encourages the reader to think, fascinates the reader, and the reader continues reading, enjoying the book. Portraits of France is a well-written book by Robert Daley. He has written about
many fascinating subjects and stories, finding details and stories, perhaps not known. At least, I didn't know some of the stories he chose to write about.
Daley shares many interesting stories about cities and subjects in France. Nice and Monaco: Princess Grace and the Grimaldi's, Verdun: the battlefields and wars of France, Lourdes and Colembeyles Deux Eglises: Abelard, the monk, and a commoner girl, a love affair, Grasse in Provence in southern France: the chemistry and production of perfume, Coco Chanel, Charles de Gaulle, St. Laurent du Maroni: a tale of jail, Avignon: the papal imprimatur, Traves: an SS man is among us, Paris One: the best-loves love story, Paris Two: the Gestapo of the Rue Lauriston, Paris Three: Lafayette, We are Here, and Paris Too. These are just some of the stories that Daley has written within his book.
Robert Daley has written a great book to be enjoyed with exceptional stories. A great read.
