I think this is a great book for discussion because it covers so many compelling topics - motherhood, immigration, reinventing of the self, attachment, and international adoption. The main female character also provoked different strong reactions. The descriptions of China and NYC were great. Our group had some quibbles about both the generic characters and sense of place in upstate NY. I didn't love this book, but I know that Polly is one of those characters I will continue to think about over time.
