This is an author a Paperback Swap member introduced to me. She read everything she could find by this writer. Karen White does write extremely well. I think that her talent lays in developing sensitive and complex characters. In this novel she shows how the incidents and actions of our lives affect us throughout our lives.

As the two women in this book illustrate, both Helena and Ellie (Eleanor) had life experiences that colored who they were. Their coming together when Ellie becomes a companion to Helena helps both bridge the gaps and disappointments in their lives, helping them forgive the activities of their sisters. This allows forgiveness on both sides. While they forgive their sisters they must also release the guilt they feel and forgive themselves. Forgiveness is only complete when both parties forgive.

There is romance, too. Perhaps I should say three as we learn about Helena and the love of her life as well as those of her sisters. As the bond between Helena and Ellie becomes stronger they become friends rather than sparring partners. It's good read but I did feel that the author sometimes dwelled too long on the incidents and feelings of both women. Nevertheless, I recommend this read for others because of the messages it carries.
