This was an enjoyable and quick-read, but not among Straub's best... and I've had about enough of writers-writing-about-writers, it's become predictable. King has a tendency to do this as well and when you are such a talented artist you shouldn't have to resort to such played out writing tactics. I know you're supposed to write what you know, but at this point in his career he should be challenging himself more.
