The fury in Cole's eyes made her shake.

"I'm okay," she whispered, wrapping her arms around his waist and hugging him.

"Well, I'm not," he muttered.

Debbie loved holding him. Even if it made him nervous. He was so big and so hard in so many interesting places and her hands ceased their movement beneath his jacket. She looked up.

"It's my gun."

She yanked her hands back as if she'd just put them on a snake. "Well, I know that," she said. "I just wasn't expecting it. Are you working on this case?"

"Let's just say I have a... vested interest... in seeing that nothing else happens to you, lady."
