Summary
The plane carrying the contestants of the Miss Teen Dream Beauty Pageant crash lands on a seemingly deserted tropical island. Only 13 of the girls survive. Miss Texas, Taylor Renee Krystal Hawkins, takes charge. The girls must build shelters, find food, and continue to practice their pageant skills so they are ready to preform when they get rescued. However, the Island isn't as deserted as the girls think and now they have a new enemy to deal with. Things get even more interesting when a boat load of gorgeous reality TV pirates arrive on the island.
Critical Analysis
This is a smart, funny, satire that pokes fun at commercialism and the importance society places on beauty. The girls start out as stereotypical beauty queens but as the story progresses they each reveal their true selves. One is an undercover reporter, one is deaf, one is transgender, one is a lesbian, and they are all smarter than they think. Miss Texas is a strong, take charge girl, and her psychotic break at finding out her idol is not what she seams was a little hard to believe. The adventure is fast paced and the story is interspersed with clever commercial breaks, fun facts about the contestants, and footnotes with pop culture explanations. I really enjoyed this novel. There is some sexual situations and gore but overall the story is very entertaining.
