The author has published several previous books; this is the tale of how he lost his mind (and wife) by suddenly becoming excessively interested in acquiring misprinted postage stamps (errors with missing colors, etc.). The theme of the book is about how collecting can become a mania.
It is a very personal book, aimed primarily at a British audience, and filled with the author's ruminations (at least in the first two chapters). I learned of it by its being mentioned in the recent book about the British Guiana one cent magenta of 1856.
In this book, one needs to remember the personalities of the late 20th C. and be somewhat familiar with the geography of London.
I am going to turn the book in today as a reserve for the Darkening Age has turned up for me. I will say Mr. Garfield's book does have its moments.
No illustrations, bibliography, index.
