Thanks to its charming cover, I expected An Overdue Match by Sarah Monzon to be a cute bookish romance, and it is. I didn't anticipate a heoine with alopecia, a tattoo artist hero, a matchmaking subplot, many pop culture references, and so much swoony passion! I loved every chapter - this book will definitely be one of the top Christian fiction novels I read this year.

The story is dedicated to the author's mother who has alopecia, and this subplot is treated with great empathy. Because Evangeline the heroine is a librarian, bookish goodness is infused in every chapter. I felt very validated as an avid reader who sees the world through a bookish lens. And I loved that hero Tai is a very talented tattoo artist who's dealt with his own health issues. He falls first and his pursuit of Evangeline curled my toes with delight.

There's a lot going on in this novel, but the author ties everything together by the conclusion. I'm excited this is book 1 in the Checking Out Love series - I can't wait to spend time with this these great characters again. I just wish that the title was more memorable.

Thank you to the publisher for providing a complimentary copy of the book. I voluntarily wrote a review and all opinions are my own.
