Fictionalization of episodes in Alice Laidlaw Munro's own life, as well as the lives of her ancestors. "View from Castle Rock" refers to Edinburgh Castle, from which her ancestors thought they could see the Atlantic. If read in conjunction with the memoir of Sheila Munro, Alice's daughter, "Castle Rock" is particularly meaningful.
Highly recommended, as are all of Munro's other books. But this one is uniquely personal, and all the better because of it.
