I've said it before and I'll say it again - Courtney Walsh is the queen of great dialog in romantic comedies! In a genre that easily becomes cringey and with a trope that often annoys me, she has written a holiday novel that's a delightful combination of humor and heart with a hunky hero.

In Merry Ex-Mas (love the clever title), Marin appears on her parents' doorstep, TV camera in tow, after missing several years of holiday celebrations. She plans to share the wonderful Christmas traditions of her family and her hometown with viewers in Denver to win a TV anchor job. She's excited to see her parents, but is shocked to learn that Max, the ex-boyfriend who shattered her heart years ago, is spending the holiday with her parents ... and not for the first time.
When Max accidentally appears in one of Marin's social media updates, the viewer reaction is off the charts, and Marin's producer is sure his involvement will earn her top ratings and the promotion. As M + M revisit their community's Christmas traditions, past events blend with current emotions. Are they faking their relationship for the cameras, or are the emotions real for one or both of them? Can past heartbreaks be healed and even impact the future?
This is written in first person from both Marin and Max's points of view. It's so fun to be inside both characters' heads and to know their true thoughts and feelings. I loved all of the characters and the many Christmas traditions in this plot as well as the behind-the-scenes glimpse of a lifestyle TV reporter. I appreciated that deeper themes were included as well as laugh-out-loud moments.
