well...with all the great kids' books out there today, this one falls way short in my opinion.
I bought this for my daughter, but I like to read her books first to make sure they're appropriate. I'm glad I did, as I am not planning on giving it to her now.
First thing I didn't like was the language was so antiquated I can't imagine my 8 year old would understand many of the expressions and references. And I really didn't like when the kids ask Ms. Price if they could wish to have a slave. Parts are a bit scary (putting a guy to burn at the stake, for example) and I doubt my girls would know what cannibals are (lucky me, our generation had Gilligan's Island to teach us those things. lol)
I would suggest this book for adults looking to re-read books from their own childhood, but for kids' books where they travel to other places and times, you just can't beat the Magic Treehouse series.
