This book is of a bizarre story from a child's (ie. Augusten) point of view of a very dysfunctional upbringing. I'm not sure the majority of American can even relate to this family. While reading the book I couldn't help (or hope) to believe this is 95% fictional. If you want a book to make your upbring seem like a piece of cake..or why rules & standards are put in place.. This would be it...
It's also very sad to think of all the kids who live like this when they're are wonderful families to take care of them via adoption, etc..
