This romantic intrigue by one of Mira's top authors (Enemy Within) begins slowly, hampered by an excess of back-story, but the tale of corruption and murder in Atlantic City and Philadelphia's Main Line delivers a punchy, breathless finish. Recovering from a gunshot wound, fearless investigative reporter Kelly Robolo is recuperating at home when she receives threatening letters on the heels of vandalism to her property. Then her best friend Victoria's husband, Chenonceau Casino executive Jonathan Bowman, travels to Miami under mysterious circumstances and is feared dead. Pressed into unwilling sleuthing service, Kelly crosses horns with sexy cop Nick McBride, who, along with the rest of the Philadelphia Police Department, blames Kelly for the accidental shooting of a colleague. Additionally, Nick's still mourning his father, Chenonceau's security chief, whose stabbing death remains unsolved. What's going on at Chenonceau, run by the enigmatic Syd Webber (who may or may not have mob ties), and where's that elusive female impersonator who may have the key to everything that's going on? Heggan dishes up an addictive read; her fans will be thrilled, and she should collect new followers as well.
