Where to begin? This book is a muddled mess masquerading as a psychological thriller. EVERYBODY in the book is psychologically messed up in one way or another, from Alice Matthews, the young psychologist who discovers Mrs. Bemis (her future patient) in a department store and glomms onto her (very unprofessional), to Alice's slacker boyfriend Ethan, to Victor (a fellow co-worker of Alice's at the psychiatric hospital), and so forth. Everybody had an issue or a secret. I truly wish this author had read more who-dunnits during his research for this book. This had a bit of promise at the beginning. Speaking of beginning, if you are a seasoned mystery aficiando, you'll get this one right away. At four hundred pages, you really should be hooked right up until the end.
