Fabiano writes the untold story of Italian immigrant experiences at the beginning of the twentieth century. The Costa's and other Italians from Scilla, Italy came to New York. Giovanna is widowed while her husband is in America seeking a new start for their lives by finding employment. She eventually comes to America trying to build a life. She endures personal tragedies, remarries and her new family is threatened by the Black Hand, a gang of brutal extortionists led by Lupo the wolf. The book is a great read. I learned much about the Italian Black Band; the book kept me very interested in reading to the last page.
