I was not sure what to expect when I turned to the first page and started to read this book. My suprise at how very good this novel turned out to be - and my delight at finding another 'keeper' to keep on my book shelf and share with future generations of my family - is still with me.
Tristan, the young orphan of the title, is an engaging hero as the reader is swept up in a well-realized world full of crusades, deadly battles, treachery, deep friendships, dangerous enemies and dastardly plots. There are plenty of sword fights, sieges, chases and secrets in the book to keep a reader entertained. The only drawback to the book is the abrupt cliffhanger ending, which won't be resolved until the yet-to-be-published second book in the series. This series appears to be well-worth the wait however, so I highly recommend it.
