this is the first book of the series that I wasn't entirely happy about. it was mass confusion most of the time, and appeared splintered. Rachel made a lot of life-changing directions without giving readers more than a line or two of explanation, which is so unlike her character. it seems to be a set-up for Rachel's future powers but done poorly. I like the direction of Rachel's love-life, and it was almost worth it just to see that develop.
