It started out promising, and then sank into a pit of confusion. I had a difficult time following the plot(?) and scenes the author was attempting to weave. There were so many transitions that didn't make sense. Some of them were "magical", some were the result of the characters' drunken 'blackouts', and still other scenes just had the characters "suddenly" somewhere else from the beginning of a paragraph to the ending.
The introduction to the Cathar mythology was interesting, but there were not enough details to flesh it out. The author threw in so many non sequiturs with fairies and other non-human characters that it just seemed like a big 'ol mess. I quit reading about 2/3 into the story, skipped to the last 6 pages, didn't like the last six pages, either, and tossed the book with a very satisfying THUNK in to my reject rat pile. (and I rarely EVER fail to finish a book, even a STINKER, like this one!). Anyone who orders this book from me will get a hand-picked "extra" book with my apologies. Please take it off my hands!
