I enjoyed the heck out of this book. Roose is a capable writer and a very good storyteller, and I was very pleased by the truly even-handed way he approached a topic about which almost *no one* is objective. For someone like me (lots of religious education, no organised religion, very little experience with evangelist sects) it was informative. It was NOT a mockfest. He took a humble, open-minded approach, and let the reader enjoy the experience along with him.
I did laugh out loud at several passages - Roose is a charming writer and has a very deft and minimalist hand with humour.
I highly recommend this book, especially to those who are NOT evangelist/fundamentalist Christians (or Christians at all). I don't think it should offend fundamentalist Christians - although it might, who knows, ymmv.
