I read The Grimrose Path solely because the characters from the first Trickster book were so interesting. The plot is good, the characters are compelling but, sadly, the writing style irritates me so much that I can't read another book in this series. I'm afraid they'll all have the same stylistic speed bump. Never once has this author explained something without repeating herself three to five times - sometimes in the same paragraph! She'll write about characters being close friends, so close they're like X, they're so close they're like Y, tight as XX, never to be parted like XY (by this point, I was ready to yell, I GET IT, THEY'RE FRIENDS!). Then what happens the next chapter? She tells us they're close friends. Three chapters later? She reminds us that they're close friends.
Is she writing for people with short-term memory loss?
It's very frustrating as I like her world-building, characters and the story is hopping but I just can't bear the repetitive nature of the narrative.
Oh well, not every book is for every one. I'll stick with Jim Butcher, Patricia Briggs, and Kevin Hearne. :(
