Mari Beth leaves her job as a court reporter and her latest failed love affair, jumps in the car, and goes, unannounced, to New Eden, MT, to join her best pal for a few weeks of R&R. When she arrives, she finds the house trashed, her friend dead, and the natives less than friendly. Something about her friend's death is not right, and Mari keeps probing for information. She gets bopped, bashed, and generally mistreated by everyone in New Eden, and this makes her more suspicious. In discovering what really happened to her friend, she also uncovers the deepest secrets of a most unsavory bunch of immoral and unlawful interlopers from Hollywood. Hoag's book is a true romance novel, complete with foolhardy feats of daring, passions simmering just below the surface, and rescue from the brink of death by the strong, handsome hero. Although it is well read by Joyce Bean, the story is less than compelling.
