The whole Pennyroyal Green series is enjoyable, but this book was outstanding. It's got an HEA and a plot where good triumphs over evil. I just finished reading it for the second time, and it was just the thing that helped pull me out of my post-election depression.
Usually I can't help favoring one main character over the other, but the hero and the heroine were both so great in this book, I can't say who I loved more. Jonathan is a caretaker and rescuer type, who can't help being protective of those weaker than himself. But not in a macho, I-know-what's-best-for-you way. The author shows, not tells, him exhibiting this trait over and over again. Tommy(Thomasina) is a courageous, quick-witted and independent heroine who is also a rescuer. For once, the cover of the book shows a heroine just the way I picture her. The way these two fitted together and made a perfect couple was amazing. The humor was great, and the story moved right along.
If you've read the whole series, you will understand the Redmond family dynamics better. Jonathan's relationship with his father was especially subtle and interesting. I guess you could read it as a stand-alone, but why would you want to miss any of these books? They're all well worth reading.
