Nick needs to get laid before this veers into a gay romance
I love the main character Nick Gautier. The author Sherrilyn Kenyon created a real winner. Nick is witty, sarcastic and generally well rounded, except for his paranormal problems. I loved the previous books in this series. Nick has some really good friends (some of which are strange), and many of the characters are cross-overs from Sherrilyns other works. Nick and company feel like friends.
This book went off the rails. Completely. The story went on too long when it didnt matter and was anticlimactic (and rather boring) when it should have been at its best. It was also very preachy and I felt that most of the book was the author lecturing the readers (not Nick). It did not work.
Here is what didnt work: Nick auditioning for a band. Just Filler. Nick in a fight with his dad, which is supposed to be a huge deal. A real yawner. The chandelier falling. What was the point? The long letter from a friend. Severe editing needed. Did we really need to interact with Rosa and Bubbas mom in this book? The dream at the end. WTF is that?
Here is what did work: All the bro bonding between Nick and his male friends. (Warning, I know Nick isnt gay, but the story seems to be going there.) The characters. As always, a really first rate job introducing new characters, and keeping the old ones active and character diversity.
Here is what the next book needs. Nick needs to have sex, big time. He is too horny for his own good and I'm tired of reading about it. Nicks life is full of violence, supernatural characters and deities and demons. Nick (and the readers) can handle some sex.
This book is Two stars: I didnt like it but I can see someone else liking it
