Expertly written, the book tells the tale of Mary Boleyn, the first of Boleyn lovers held by King Henry VIII.
Despite having a daughter and a son by King Henry, Mary is cast aside when her sister Anne is favored by the king. In other stories, Mary is painted as a whore, or prostitute. This book seems to set the story straight--that she was merely a pawn in the game of her family to capture the crown.
In the end, Mary finds a much deserved happiness with the family she forges. She finally escapes her birth-family that would only continue to use her over and over again for their personal gain.
