EXCELLENT BOOK!! a touching story of a brother and sister growing up with parents who dont know how to love. Using the church, God, the bible to justify the way they love/abuse their children. Told in flashbacks from the time her brother (who was adopted when he was three) joined their family thru to their later teen years its their love story. How they managed to show love to each other even when no one had demonstrated/communicated love to them. Her brother David who is african american has to endure racism not just from the kids in their all white schools and churches but also at home where his adopted parents cant/wont love him simply because of his skin color. After some presumed transgressions they are eventually shipped off to a reform school in the caribbean. together they endure hell on earth. hoping and praying for the day of their release. this book should be required reading. this author can tell a story!! if you cant tell i love this book!!!!!!!!!! be forwarned language, sex, abuse, rape, religous exploitation are all themes of this book it is not for the easily offended
