Stick with the story, it gets better.
I first bought The Host when it was initially released. I read the first 1/4 of the book and put it down because I just couldn't get into it. The plot was just so slow.
A year later, I picked it back up and started reading where I had left off before. It had taken me about a week to get through the first 100 pages and about 2 days to get through the rest of the book.
Stephenie Meyer is an excellent storyteller. The world she created was well thought out and described in vivid detail. The characters weren't as fleshed out as I would like. The storyline rang hollow. There is plenty of conflict between the characters; but the conflict between the parasitic Souls and their unsuspecting hosts is superficial, at best.
